Tomato seeds for every garden

Homegrown tomatoes are a world apart from shop-bought, and a single packet gives you varieties you will never find as plants — from sweet cherry tomatoes for snacking to big beefsteaks for slicing. Botanically Solanum lycopersicum, tomatoes are tender, sun-loving and surprisingly easy once you know the basics. Grow them in the ground, in pots or under glass.

First time growing tomatoes? Our vegetable guide covers sowing, planting and feeding for a heavy crop.

How to grow tomatoes from seed

Sow indoors from late winter on a warm windowsill, germinate at around 18–22°C, then pot on and harden off before planting out after the last frost. Cordon (vine) types need a stake or string and side-shooting; bush types sprawl and need less work. Keep plants fed once the first fruits set.

Which tomato to grow

For pots and hanging baskets, compact cherry and snack tomatoes are hard to beat. Want a chemical-free crop? See our organic tomato seeds. Tomatoes sit within our wider range of fruiting vegetables and all vegetable seeds.

Explore beyond tomatoes into the wider summer harvest, or go straight for the sweetest snacking types.

Frequently Asked Questions

When do I sow tomato seeds?
Sow indoors from late winter to early spring and plant out after the last frost once nights are reliably warm.
How long do tomato seeds take to germinate?
Usually about 7 to 14 days at 18–22°C; a warm, bright spot or a propagator speeds things up.
Do tomatoes need support?
Cordon (vine) types need a stake or string and regular side-shooting; bush types need little or no support.
Can I grow tomatoes in pots?
Yes — cherry and patio varieties do very well in containers and hanging baskets on a sunny spot.
Do you ship across the EU?
Yes, orders ship from Meppel in the Netherlands with fast EU delivery, and the final shipping cost is shown at checkout.
